## About Simone Schwarz-Bart

Born in 1938, novelist and playwright Simone Schwarz-Bart gave Caribbean literature one of its foundational works, The Bridge of Beyond (Pluie et vent sur Télumée Miracle, 1972), a portrait of a lineage of Black women in Guadeloupe whose stories weave together Creole and French. She had previously co-written A Woman Named Solitude (Un plat de porc aux bananes vertes, 1967) with her husband, André Schwarz-Bart, before publishing the novel Ti Jean L’Horizon (1979) and the play Ton beau capitaine (1987). Together, they edited Hommage à la femme noire, a six-volume series devoted to women from African and diasporic history. She lives in Goyave, Guadeloupe.

Née en 1938, la romancière et dramaturge Simone Schwarz-Bart a donné à la littérature caribéenne l'une de ses œuvres fondatrices, Pluie et vent sur Télumée Miracle (1972), portrait d'une lignée de femmes noires en Guadeloupe dont les histoires tissent ensemble créole et français. Elle avait auparavant coécrit Un plat de porc aux bananes vertes (1967) avec son mari, André Schwarz-Bart, avant de publier le roman Ti Jean L'Horizon (1979) et la pièce Ton beau capitaine (1987). Ensemble, ils ont dirigé Hommage à la femme noire, une série en six volumes consacrée aux femmes de l'histoire africaine et diasporique. Elle vit à Goyave, en Guadeloupe.
